Iran Could Have Nukes In 2 Years

CIA Director Leon Panetta disclosed his fears today that Iran could have enough low-enriched uranium to build two nuclear warheads by 2012.

Tehran would need a year to enrich it fully to produce a bomb and it would take “another year to develop the kind of weapon delivery system in order to make that viable,” he said.

Iran has been under heavy pressure by World government to be more transparent with its nuclear facility, amidst fears that its in an arms race to acquire nuclear weapons. The country’s President Mahamoud Ahmadinejad has always maintained that his country wanted nuclear energy to generate electricity. However, he has so far rejected offers from European countries to have electricity-grade uranium processed abroad.

The UN has already laid sanctions against the nation and the US Congress this week endorsed a sweeping package of tough new energy and financial sanctions.

Neither the US or its regional ally Israel have ruled out a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
